When it comes to infrastructure, VMware provides choice to its customers. To date, this has either been a “build your own” model or a converged infrastructure with something like VCE, VSPEX, or FlexPod. Today, prior to the start of VMworld 2014 US, VMware announced a hyper-converged infrastructure that offers faster time to deployment and a simplified SDDC management lifecycle.
The goal of the EVO family is to simplify how you buy, deploy and operate your SDDC. EVO leverages vSphere and VSAN technology in conjunction with pre-qualified EVO partners. Two products were announced today being:
- EVO: RAIL (Learn more here) – a virtualized infrastructure running vSphere and VSAN consisting of 2U / 4N appliances with scalability up to 4 appliances
- EVO: RACK (Tech Preview) – a data center scale cloud infrastructure running the full vCloud Suite consisting of rack-mounted servers over multiple rack
