Log Insight Management Pack for vRealize Operations Manager

I recently talked about the vRealize Operations content pack for Log Insight. In this post, I would like to talk about the Log Insight management pack for vRealize Operations Manager.

Why it is needed?

As discussed in my integration post, the management pack is required for the Launch in Context functionality between the two products. Note that as of Log Insight 2.5, this is the only use of the management pack though this may change in the future. To be clear, the management pack does not produce any information or dashboards specific to the Log Insight application data in vRealize Operations Manager.

How to get it

The management pack is available with the download of vRealize Operations Manager, however the latest version is always available on Solution Exchange. The one available with the vRealize Operations Manager download is the initially launched version — not the latest — and is never updated.

How to install it

Installation is like any other management pack in that you upload the PAK file through the Administration > Solutions > Add option.

How to configure it

This is the part that gets everyone — you will notice that the configuration option is grayed out:

The reason for this is because the Log Insight management pack does not require any configuration! Do not believe me? Look at the “Adapter Instance Name” column under the Solution Details and notice how it says “Configuration not needed”.

Summary

The Log Insight management pack for vRealize Operations Manager provides Launch in Context capabilities between the two products as of Log Insight 2.5. The management pack is available on the vRealize Operations Manager page as well as Solution Exchange, but Solution Exchange always has the latest available version. The management pack installs like any other management pack and does not require any configuration. Please be advised, you do need to configure vRealize Operations Manager integration on the Log Insight side for the Launch in Context functionality to work.
